Description
Gigue in C# major was a possible candidate for Opening Doors, my in-progress collection of pieces at the late elementary level in unusual keys, that I decided was a bit higher in level than what the set needed. However, it’ll still be great fun and an excellent reading challenge for students in the early to mid-intermediate area who want to play something that sounds much harder than it is. Teachers who are tired of assigning C. P. E. Bach’s Solfeggietto (or need some repertoire to build up toward that piece) will appreciate the similar Baroque/Galant and toccata-like writing. It’s also a good preparatory exercise for J. S. Bach’s C# major Prelude from Book 1 of the WTC. The articulation should be as dry and harpsichord-like as possible.
